守护光大我们心中的“光谷” | 韩慧校长2025届毕业典礼致辞

亲爱的各位家长、老师、同学们:
今天是一个值得铭记的日子,亲爱的同学们,在你们即将开启人生新篇章的时刻,我想对你们说一声:祝贺你们,毕业快乐!
第十次毕业送别
又逢毕业季。当我现在阅览各位毕业生的留言时,和你们朝夕相处的一幕幕又浮现在眼前。我也不禁想起2006年相似的一幕:那是我参加我女儿在加拿大高中的毕业典礼。她同班的一个来自印度的锡克教同学,一整个家族几十位客人,或包着头巾或穿着莎丽盛装出席。尽管彼此的英语口音差异很大,但我们还是能充分理解彼此为人父母的兴奋与激动,我当时突然产生一种强烈感觉:世界最高的喜马拉雅山和曾经的战争记忆,无法阻挡我们的后代成为朝夕相处的同窗。借助国际教育这座桥梁,不同肤色不同阶层的人们,共情共鸣对世界和平对文明进步的向往。由此,我重新点燃了回归国际教育的小火苗。

也因此,我和大家有了今天光谷康桥第十次毕业送别。和以往九次不同的是,我现在和大家的气场相通中,感知到了大家对当下地球村脱离近半个世纪的和平发展常态,重新返回到撕裂对抗的文明停滞的担忧。生于忧患死于安乐的忧患意识,这其实也是我们倡导的。已经有一些声音怀疑:面临关贸大战、俄乌和中东热战还有未来硅基生命人工智能的挑战,人类碳基生命的文明进程是否会日益黯淡?作为拔尖创新人才培养重要途径的出国留学还有无价值?
此心光明,求真向善爱美
把握当下发展机遇,应对未来不确定性的有效途径之一,是汲取过往人类文明史重大转折关头的经验教训!我们此届毕业生前面两年生活过的光谷二高校园,每天会面壁心学大师王阳明的“致良知”:“此心光明,亦复何言”,警醒我们“生于忧患死于安乐”的孟子,还有一句“人皆可为尧舜”,联系起来理解,不确定性的困惑,恰好是普通人“凤凰涅槃成长为圣贤”的契机。

此心光明,求真向善爱美,这是人脱离动物世界文明进化的天理。人民教育家陶行知知行合一践行良知,胡适“道不同而相为谋”地渐进改良……他们的海归经历、教育救国实践和现代文明倡导者的成就,不失为在座毕业生修身齐家治国平天下的楷模,用现在语言来表示就是:他们是个人成长、家庭幸福和人类文明共同体命运共同体建设者的榜样。

世界节点与光谷康桥节点
各位,今年毕业季,恰逢世界文明进程和光谷康桥办学历史的两个重要节点。世界节点,就是全球反法西斯战争胜利80周年。我想介绍两个关于生死的故事。1942年战争最严酷关头,已经逃亡到美洲的奥地利犹太作家茨威格,出于对人类文明可能毁灭的悲观绝望而自杀,尽管他曾激励世人“人类精神的伟大,在于它能在废墟上种出玫瑰。”同一年,茨威格的同胞、当时的医生后来哈佛大学心理学家弗兰克尔,身处奥斯维辛集中营。他带领同伴熬过种种非人处境的是“意义疗法”:给自己定一个目标、每天做件有意义的事情。仅仅三年之后,战争结束。我恳请各位毕业生牢记他们两位用生命启示我们的:永远要抱有对人“此心光明”求真向善爱美的信心!人类文明进程就如我们所在城市的长江,时不时会被历史的三峡重重扭曲压制,却始终百折不挠地流向海洋,通往太阳升起的未来。
光谷康桥的节点,则是今天毕业的各位,恰好是我们的第十届毕业生。大家都是亲历者,因此对我们弥足珍贵。十年前的此时此刻,我们为首届两位毕业生举行了非常朴素非常隆重的毕业典礼。非常有幸的是,当年两位毕业生之一的那位张同学,经历了麦吉尔大学数学学士、香港大学数理统计硕士的教育,经历了资本市场的历练,现在又回到光谷校园成为了大家熟悉的张老师。还有我们的第三届毕业生、大家熟悉的心理学刘老师——她是从曼大本硕毕业后归来的。可以预见,还会有更多的毕业生回归光谷康桥母校,传承立德树人事业的接力棒。

同学们,今日的师长们已接过先贤的此心光明向光而行,而你们,将是新一代的此心光明者。当你们在暴雨中为陌生人撑起伞,在数据洪流中坚守人性的坐标,在暗夜依然选择坚守我们坚信的光之谷,相信我们坚守的谷之光——这便是光对光的呼应心对心的共鸣,这便是光明替换黑暗、文明战胜野蛮的动力。
最后,请允许我分享我与我的第一届学生的对话与大家共勉,她是我18岁离开武汉去内蒙乡下插队担任民办教师时的学生:
做天下的低谷,永恒的德就充足。永恒的德充足,就会保持光的朴素纯真状态。
我想回复她说:
我们既是文明的见证者,也是它的建设者。
当一代一代的心灵在真实或虚拟的世界发光,
那便是我们心中的光谷——人类文明的未来诗篇。
再见了,各位文明的传承者,祝大家阅尽千帆归来仍是少年!

Dear parents, teachers, and students:
To the Graduating Class, Congratulations!
As you step into a new chapter of life, I'm reminded of moments we've shared - and of a memory from 2006, attending my daughter's high school graduation in Canada. A Sikh classmate arrived with dozens of family members in traditional attire. Despite our different backgrounds and accents, we connected through the shared pride of being parents. It made me realize: mountains, wars, and history cannot stop the next generation from learning and growing together. That moment rekindled my passion for international education.

That journey has brought me here - today, to this 10th graduation ceremony of Optics Valley Ulink School. But this year feels different. This time, I sense that many of us are concerned about the uncertain direction our world is heading. For nearly half a century, the world had been moving toward peace and cooperation. Now, we see signs of growing division and stagnation. Yet a sense of crisis is not necessarily something to fear - it is something we encourage our students to face. In these times, some are starting to ask: in a world of trade conflicts, war in Ukraine, and the rise of AI and silicon-based life, does our carbon-based human civilization still have a future? Is it still worthwhile to study abroad in such uncertain times?
To seize today's opportunities and navigate future uncertainties, we must draw wisdom from the turning points of human history. In their early years, our graduates studied under the reminder of Wang Yangming's teaching: "With a clear heart, what more needs to be said?" Alongside Mencius' insight - out of hardship comes strength - we understand that uncertainty is not a barrier, but a chance. It is through challenge that ordinary people grow, and greatness begins.

To seek truth, goodness, and beauty - that is what sets humanity apart from animals and drives civilization forward. Educators like Tao Xingzhi, who lived by the unity of knowledge and action, and Hu Shi, who pursued gradual reform through dialogue despite differences, are shining examples. Their overseas experience, their dedication to education and national progress, and their role in advancing modern civilization make them role models for all of you - not only in personal growth and family well-being, but also in building a shared future for humanity.

This year's graduation coincides with two milestones: the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory in World War II and a key moment in our school's history. Globally, it's the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory in WWII. Let me share two stories about life and death from that era. In 1942, writer Stefan Zweig took his life in despair over the fate of civilization, despite once saying, "The greatness of the human spirit is in growing roses from ruins." That same year, Viktor Frankl, later a Harvard psychologist, survived Auschwitz by holding onto purpose - finding meaning in each day. Just three years later, the war ended. I urge all graduates to remember the lesson these two lives teach us: always hold faith in the bright human spirit - seeking truth, goodness, and beauty. The progress of human civilization is like the Yangtze River in our city - often twisted and restrained by the historic Three Gorges, yet it persistently flows onward to the sea, towards the rising sun of the future.
Today's graduates represent the 10th cohort of Optics Valley Ulink School - a meaningful milestone in our school's history. You are especially precious to us because you've grown alongside our journey. Ten years ago, we held a modest yet solemn ceremony for our first two graduates. One of them, now Ms. Zhang, after earning degrees from McGill and the University of Hong Kong, has returned to serve as a teacher. Ms. Liu, a graduate of our third cohort, also returned after completing her studies in psychology at the University of Manchester. We look forward to more alumni returning to continue the legacy of education and character-building.

Dear students, today your teachers have inherited the light of wisdom passed down from those before us. Now, you are the new bearers of that light. When you hold an umbrella for a stranger in the rain, when you uphold human values amid a flood of data, when you choose to believe in the light of Optics Valley even in the darkest night - that is light responding to light, heart resonating with heart. This is the power that drives light to overcome darkness, and civilization to triumph over barbarism.
Finally, allow me to share a message exchanged with one of my very first students - someone I taught when I left Wuhan at the age of 18 to serve as a rural teacher in Inner Mongolia:
Be the lowland of the world, and your virtue will be ever abundant. When virtue endures, the light within remains humble and pure.
Let us remember: we are not just witnesses to history, but also its builders. When generations of hearts shine, whether in real or virtual worlds - that is the Light Valley we believe in.
Farewell, torchbearers of civilization. May you sail far and return young at heart.
